Well, it is Labor Day, September 4th, 2017. A day that we all pause to celebrate the work that we do for ourselves and for each other. Without each other, our hard work would seem less purposeful in a sense. So, it is on this day that I pause and recall all of the incredible people whom I have worked for or worked with.
Thank you to the ones that taught me to be stronger in body, mind and spirit. Thank you to the ones who educated me in ways that books cannot. Thank you to the ones who believed in me. Thank you to the ones who taught me to move, and the ones who told me to move on. Thank you to the ones who told me to try harder. Thank you to the ones who told me “you’ve got this!”. Thank you to the ones who allowed me to pause, and to the ones who gave me a push. Thank you to the ones who gave me inspiration. Thank you to the ones who kept showing up, who keep showing up, and who encourage me to do the same. THANK YOU!
I have worked with you in classrooms, in studios, in theaters, in neighborhoods, in parks, on beaches, on line, in faraway places and even in nearer places, like your homes, or even mine! We have achieved things that we never thought we could, and sometimes we merely achieved an understanding that we tried our best, and that was ok. But really, does the achievement matter? Or was it our labor, our journey, that was the marrow of the experience?
For all of the labor we have done and for all the labor that is to come, I celebrate. It is with much gratitude in my heart, soul, and body that I say… “Let’s work!”
